SUPPORT RAISING

WHY RAISE SUPPORT?

Raising prayer and financial support is not simply about covering the cost of a trip. It is a

biblical pattern of partnership in gospel ministry. Throughout Scripture, believers shared in

the work of ministry by praying, giving, and sending. When you invite others to support you,

you are inviting them to join the mission with you. They become part of the team spiritually.

Their prayers strengthen you. Their generosity makes the work possible. People who know

you and care about your walk with Christ often want to support your growth and your

service. By stepping forward and asking, you are giving them an opportunity to participate

in what God is doing. Choosing not to engage in support raising may feel easier, but it

forfeits the potential blessing of shared ministry and shared joy.

EMAIL OR MAILED LETTER?

Both email and mailed letters can be effective ways to raise support. Each has strengths and

weaknesses. Be thoughtful about which method fits each person on your list.

Email

Email is convenient and allows supporters to click directly on the giving link. It is fast and

easy to send. However, emails are also easy to overlook or forget. If you send an email, make

the subject line personal. Use the person’s name. Write a short personal note at the top

before pasting the main letter. Even if you use the sample letter, customize the opening and

closing so it feels written specifically to them.

Mailed Letter

A mailed letter requires more effort, but it is often more personal and harder to ignore.

Handwritten names, a signed letter, and a stamped response envelope communicate care

and intentionality. Many people respond more thoughtfully to something they can hold in

their hands.

You may choose to send some letters by mail and others by email. Email can also be a

helpful way to follow up one week after sending a letter.WHO SHOULD I ASK FOR SUPPORT?

Pray first. Then make a thoughtful list of people who know you and care about your

spiritual growth.

• Relatives

• Family friends and your parents’ close friends

• Members of Chapelgate Church

• Neighbors

• Business owners you know personally

• Teachers, coaches, or mentors

WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY LETTER?

• Your support letter (typed and personalized)

• Giving link: chapelgate.org/honduras

• Donation slip (if provided)

• Response envelope with a stamp (optional but helpful)

SUPPORT RAISING GUIDELINES

1. Support is raised for the team.

Funds are raised for the Honduras Mission Team as a whole, not for one individual. If one

student raises more than needed, that surplus will assist another team member who may be

short. If a participant is unable to attend after receiving support, those funds will remain

with the Honduras Mission Team to cover project expenses.

2. Each participant is responsible.

If, by June 1, 2026, your individual support goal has not been met, you are responsible for

covering the remaining balance before departure.

Example: If you have raised $1,600 of a $1,900 commitment, you are responsible for the

remaining $300.

HOW DO I WRITE THE SUPPORT LETTER?

• Handwrite the person’s name after 'Dear.'

• Write the date at the top of the letter.

• Add a short handwritten personal note at the bottom explaining why this trip matters to

you.

• Sign your name clearly.

• Follow up with a thank you whether they give financially or commit to pray.SAMPLE SUPPORT LETTER

Dear __________,

This summer I have the opportunity to serve on a mission team traveling to Tegucigalpa,

Honduras from July 4–11 with our Breakaway youth ministry.

We will be partnering with Iglesia Presbyteriana Gracia Soberana, a growing church plant in

the heart of the city. The church has a vision to plant additional churches in underserved

areas of Tegucigalpa, and our team will assist in laying groundwork for that long-term

ministry. We are not going to start something new, but to strengthen and support what God

is already doing through faithful local pastors and leaders.

Each day we will serve wherever the church sees the greatest need. This may include

working with children and families, helping with Bible clubs and outreach events, assisting

with light construction or home projects, and serving communities that care for individuals

with physical or mental disabilities. Our goal is to share the love of Christ in both word and

action while encouraging the local church in their mission.

In preparation, I am participating in team training and spiritual development so I can serve

humbly and represent Christ well. I am praying that God will use this experience to grow my

faith and help me see more clearly how He is at work beyond my own community.

The total cost of the trip is between $1,800 and $2,000. This amount covers airfare, lodging,

meals, transportation, and ministry expenses.

I would be grateful for your partnership in two ways.

1. please pray for me and our team. Pray that God would prepare our hearts, protect us as

we travel, and use our time in Honduras to strengthen His church.

2. Second, if you are willing, I invite you to consider making a financial contribution toward

my support. Any amount makes a difference.

You can respond online at: https://chapelgate.org/honduras - Or by writing a check payable

to “Chapelgate Church” with my name designated in the memo line and returning it with the

enclosed slip and stamped envelope. God willing, I hope to have my full support raised by

6/1/26.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering being part of what God is

doing in Honduras this summer. I look forward to sharing how the Lord works through this

opportunity.

With love and gratitude,

[Student Name]

P.S. Add a handwritten personal note here.

HOW SHOULD I FOLLOW UP?

Following up is not pressure. It is responsibility and gratitude. Most people appreciate a

reminder.

  1. Wait about one week after sending your letter before following up.

  2. Send a short, personal message thanking them for taking time to read your letter.

  3. If they have not responded, gently ask if they received your letter and if they have any questions.

  4. Always thank them whether they give financially, through prayer.

“My life was radically changed and shaped through my week in Honduras with Breakaway. I saw both the ugliness of life in a broken world, but the beauty of the church and its impact on an entire city.”

Student Participant

Serve with us this summer:
Breakaway will be once again serving in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in partnership with Iglesia Presbiteriana Gracia Soberana, This church is one of Chapelgate’s church planting partners and works in the city center of Tegus. There Rev. Aaron Halbert and his team will have service projects, childrens ministry and English ministry for us to labor in as we assist this church in its efforts to reach the lost & hurting in this 3rd world country.

Where Will Our Group Stay?
Our home base will have our team staying at the new Ministry House. It is located in a safe part of Tegucigalpa, just down the street from our missionaries and about 5 minutes from the church. The house features a secure walled off property with separate sleeping arrangments for guys and girls. This location gives our team a safe place to let down their guard and process all they have seen and experienced and it also . Depending on what our specific project work will be there is the possibility of spending a few nights outside the city working at a camp. Know that safe accommodations will be secured and we will be sure to let you know what those are.

How will meals work?
Breakfast will be eaten at the house.  Lunches will be either packed by the students each day or provided from the ministry site.  Dinners will be eaten family style at pre-selected restaurants throughout the city. Filtered water will be provided to fill water bottles or in plastic bottles and used for drinking and brushing teeth. The tap water is not safe for drinking.

Is It Safe?
Although safety can never be guaranteed, Chapelgate’s Breakaway Ministry makes every effort to ensure the safety of your most treasured possession.  I would like to share with you a few things that may help put your mind at ease.
• Students are never taken to areas of the city that they are either unwanted or would be considered unsafe.
• Both Chapelgate’s leadership team and full-time trained missionaries  supervise the students.
• MTW Impact has taken thousands of students on these trips in cities all over the world, and they have yet (Praise the Lord) to have any problems or incidents arisen by an act of random violence or crime during the trip.
• Last and especially not least, we serve a sovereign, powerful God who is truly in control of all things let’s not forget whose hands our team is really in.

Health?

There is a high quality (Western) hospital that can provide high level medical care if needed. There are also quality doctors connected with our missions team. Please double check with your health insurance to make sure they are covered which would include possibly flying home. If not, there are insurance riders we can provide.

Health measures?

  • We will only drink bottled or sanitized water.

  • We will instruct team on how to create healthy daily habits that will prevent sickness.

  • We only eat at dining establishments that use clean water and have high marks from the health department.

• Must have completed the ninth grade.
